On the 14th, in a meeting room at City Hall, Daejeon City signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Panasia Co., Ltd., Korea Carbon Capture & Sequestration R&D Center, and Daejeon City Corporation to provide reliable hydrogen fuel supply.

Through the MOU, each party agrees to apply for the hydrogen production system deployment project (posted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy) to cooperate on providing reliable hydrogen production from natural gas and fuel supply. Panasia Co., Ltd. will help with   plant investments for hydrogen production equipment, while Korea Carbon Capture & Sequestration R&D Center will undertake carbon capture and sequestration and Daejeon City Corporation the deployment and operation of the equipment.

The hydrogen production system deployment project is aimed at increasing the reliability and accessibility of hydrogen supply, which is vital to the operation of hydrogen-powered buses, an environmentally-friendly form of public transit. Last year, three places – Gangwon-do, Gyeonggi-do, and Changwon – were selected from across the country, where deployments are underway.

Daejeon City also began deployments last year, starting with Hakha Hydrogen Filling Station. The city plans on building two more filling stations for hydrogen buses and one general filling station. It hopes to provide 560 hydrogen vehicles (cumulative) and 10 hydrogen buses by the end of the year.

Daejeon has been working on this project to cope with growing demand for hydrogen fuel. The city aims to deploy related technologies by working closely with related expert organizations.

Heo Tae-jeong, mayor of Daejeon, said, “Daejeon City is the heart of this country and the hub of transportation and logistics. We hope to become a pioneering city on hydrogen by expanding the hydrogen industry, and it requires more proactive public administration. Your interest and support will be greatly appreciated.”
