PANASIA, a global leader in eco-friendly marine and plant equipment, including ballast water treatment systems (BWTS), has expanded into marine information and communications technology (ICT) services.
The company is looking to transform into a marine ICT service provider using its marine equipment technology.
On the 3rd, PANASIA (CEO Soo-tae Lee) reported that it had recently developed PANASIA marine satellite control system (Pan MSCS) and begun a test run (beta test).
“Pan MSCS” gathers and monitors various data from marine equipment and components, diagnoses the current state of the equipment, and provides fault predictions and solutions.
PANASIA will run the test on large container ships with BWTS on board by the end of the year. It will focus on checking the data acquisition and processing capabilities of Pan MSCS, the applicability of analysis data, and two-way data transmission between land and sea.
The company will identify areas for improvement, and determine the level of satisfaction of the shipowner, who will use the analysis data, and the scalability of the system. Then, it will deploy the system extensively to all of PANASIA’s products, including pollutant removal and energy conservation systems, as well as ships with BWTS.

In addition to remote follow-up (AS) for PANASIA’s products, including BWTS on board a ship traversing the oceans, this particular system will allow IoT-based remote ship monitoring service.

One of its long-term goals is to make Pan MSCS into a universal IT system that is necessary for safe and cost-effective ship operations.

PANASIA aims to apply big data 78 technology to build a comprehensive information platform and, ultimately, transform into a marine IT service provider.

PANASIA’s transformation has been viewed as a business innovation that is so rare in the Korean manufacturing industry.

Smart Factory 575 may be the hottest issue in manufacturing innovation. But most manufacturers have only used the smart factory to help automate the production and increase efficiency, not as a tool for a change of business.

For the past few years, PANASIA focused on IT convergence R&D, and built corporate smart factory called ‘e-PANASIA.' The company has accumulated IoT80 technology to acquire ship data from production automation and to provide new data.

CEO Soo-tae Lee said, “Even if you have world-class competitiveness, you will face challenges in manufacturing a single product. We have found IT convergence services attuned to the 4th Industrial Revolution era. But whether it will be successful or not depends on how competitive the platform we use is. We will create a benchmark for successful transition from manufacturing to IT services that small and established manufacturers in Korea can use to bring about their own innovations.
